“Jayce, who’s God’s Son?”
“Jesus!”
“Jayce, who made the world?”
“Jesus!”
“Jayce, what’s your last name?”
“Jesus!”
“Um, no…. Jayce, where do you live?”
“Church!”
As this conversation with my four-year-old son unfolded, I began thinking, “Geez, my little man thinks Jesus is the answer to everything!” Then I stopped my thoughts dead in their tracks. I looked at my wife and said, “Maybe he’s wiser than WE are.” What more could we ask for as parents? Our child has things figured out better than we do. Jesus really is the answer to everything that this life might throw our way, yet most of us don’t live consistently with that truth in mind.
This conversation helped me to understand the reality of what Jesus spoke two thousand years ago in Matthew 18: 2-5;
2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.
I know, I know… but you don’t know my story…. but it’s really complicated…but my bills…but my addiction…but my marriage….but my kid…but my job…but my boss…but you don’t know what he did…but I’m not qualified…but it’s not fair…but…
As my son so eloquently put it….”Jesus.” It’s simple. So simple a child can get it better than we adults do. He really is the answer.
